Hungry for something special? It seems on every street there are an overwhelming amount of restaurants in Seogwipo. Here are just a few favorites from myself and other locals.
Dombae Gogi @ Cheon Jit Gol 천짓골식당
There is something special about the taste of Jeju Pork. Growing up in America, I always loved bacon and pulled pork, but it wasn't until coming to Jeju that I became a true porkaholic.
Dombae Gogi is like a pig fell from heaven and landed on a cutting board. Cheonjitgol, right off of Arangjoeul food street, is the number one restaurant for this local specialty. This is not Korean BBQ, but a slab of luscious boiled pork with some of the best kimchi in town, enough to make your heart flutter. The kimchi itself is usually aged at least for a year which gives it this otherworldly taste. Its a must try and probably one of my favorite places in Seogwipo.
The dish is available in Black Pork and Just good Ol' Jeju Pork (Just as heavenly and more affordable). Like korean BBQ, you have a variety of ways to wrap your meal up. The fermented fish sauce is an acquired taste, but definitely wrap that baby up with some Kimchi and raw garlic. A slab will set you back 38,000W (good for 2 people). This is not the cheapest eat, but well worth it. Open 6:00~10:00pm everyday
Make sure to ask for the Mom Guk..they sometimes assume foreigners don't eat it. Mom Guk is a traditional seaweed soup from Jeju that is usually eaten at weddings. The broth is loaded with savory pork fat and the taste is far from oceanic. Give it a try even if you don't like your typical Seaweed soups.
